PRODUCTION LOG

Based on Jefferson Airplane’s - White Rabbit (Cover Mix)

The first step I took to mix this track was to correct the way the sound was coming out from the speakers, I had to set the metronome to 1-2 where I only had 2 speakers. It was originally set to 3-4. The second step I took was correcting the audio. First, I put each vocal track on solo and listened carefully section, by section, and lopped the track 4 bars at a time. I then applied flex time by high lighting all regions and pressing the flex time symbol on the grey toolbar. It changed the colour setting of the track to blue and added yellow lines. I then used the marque tool to move the position of the vocals if and when needed.

Next, I worked on the pitch correction by using a pitch corrector and autotuned until the notes the singer was singing matched the correct key. I then entered them into the pop-up box. Once I found the notes I pressed the pitch corrector symbol. With every distinct correction I made, I would save an alternative file in case I wanted to go back to the original or edit the track.

The third thing I did was create a plug-in for flex pitch. I sent the signal from the control panel's master mixer volume dial and manually moved the audio notes by clicking to add more vibrato and altering her pitching. This also changed the dynamics of her voice. I then roughly set the tac time to 200 for a nice sound.

Moving on, I worked on the automation which changed the vocals and altered the volume. I zoomed in and out for different views and used the scissors tool to cut the sound. I used the marquee tool to highlight sections to either increase or decrease volume. I also created a line using three dots (triangle) to decrease the volume at parts where I noticed the sound was bleeding.

After the automation, I created a (reverb) bus and sent it to a sends to add reverb FXs to create a nice full sound. I then moved on to using automation to remove the breath noise (bleeding sounds) from the audio track. In terms of EQ, I got rid of the low-end sounds where her voice had too much bass in it. In terms of mixing, I experimented with the dynamics using a noise gate. And then I put her voice through the de- eser to stop the eses 's' from sounding too harsh I also added chorus verse abl.

Next, I stuck a compressor on both vocal tracks to limit the pecks in her voice and make the sound more prominent. For the compressor, I turned the auto gain off to set the fresh hold depending on how loud the recording was. Compressor only works once the fresh hold I cut and moved the fader in and out to get a small fade in and fade out effect.

Finally, I created my Es1- synthesiser plug-in that replicated the Mannequin synthesiser by moving and adjusting the Attack Decay Sustain and Release setting, and then I was helped with emulating the notes I could hear within the original synth. After that, once I had finished making my synthesiser I then put the synth through ChromaVerb and then the flanger to add some FXs and then changed the sound by panning from left to right once I finished the song I mixed, mastered it, and bounced it to mp3 and wave files.
